How to Extend a Video with AI

Start with your video, choose what to change, and describe the result you want.

  1. Upload Your Video

Choose a continuous shot with a clear ending to continue, or a composition you want to expand.

  2. Choose Your Goal

Select a workflow, set the clip length and format, and optionally describe the next action or surroundings.

  3. Generate and Review

Preview the generated video and download it when it fits your needs.

Video duration extension

Make Your Video Longer by Continuing the Scene

AI video continuation generates new footage after a clip's ending. It can help carry an unfinished action forward, continue a camera move, or provide more visual time for narration and on-screen text.

Continue an Unfinished Action

Carry a walk, turn or reach beyond the moment where the original shot stops.

Continue a Camera Move

Give a pan or tracking shot more time to reveal the scene, guided by the direction and pace you describe.

Add Time for Narration or Text

The picture ends before your voiceover or on-screen message finishes. Additional footage can provide more visual time while keeping the scene moving. Audio and text are added separately in your editor.

Video frame expansion

Expand the Video Frame Beyond Its Edges

Video outpainting creates plausible surroundings beyond the original edges, giving a tight composition more room—even at the same aspect ratio.

Build Out the Surrounding Scene

Add landscape, room or background details around a close view. The new surroundings are generated, not recovered from the recording.

Give the Subject More Room

Create breathing room around a person or product that sits too close to the edge.

Make Space for Captions

Titles or captions would cover an important part of the shot. Extra background beside or above the subject can provide space for text, which you add in an editor after generation.

Video aspect ratio

Adapt Your Video to a New Aspect Ratio

Adapt a clip to landscape, portrait or square layouts. Frame expansion can generate the surrounding scene area needed for a target aspect ratio, offering an alternative to cropping, stretching or adding borders.

Landscape to Vertical

A wide shot needs to fit a tall layout, but a tight crop would leave important details out. Added scene area above and below can make room for a 9:16 composition.

Portrait or Square to Landscape

A portrait or square clip needs to fill a wide layout. New scenery on the left and right can create a 16:9 composition without relying on a stretched subject or empty side borders.

Reuse a Clip Across Formats

Prepare different layouts for the same scene, adjusting the subject's size and position for each format.

When Should You Use AI Video Extension?

Consider AI video extension when you need new action or surrounding scene detail. A loop, slower playback, a crop or padding may be enough when the existing footage already contains what you need.

Need More Time?

Choose how to add running time.

  • AI Continuation

    New scene content
    What changes
Generates new footage beyond the clip's ending.
    Choose when
You need new action. Check for changes in movement and subject details.
  • Loop or Freeze Frame

    Reuses source footage
    What changes
Repeats a sequence or holds one frame, so motion repeats or stops.
    Choose when
A repeating background or a held ending suits the scene.
  • Slow Motion

    Reuses source footage
    What changes
Slows the existing action. Smoothness depends on the source and processing.
    Choose when
A slower pace is intentional and fits the scene.

Need More Space or a New Ratio?

Choose how to fit the composition.

  • AI Frame Expansion

    New scene content
    What changes
Generates plausible surroundings outside the original edges.
    Choose when
You need new scene area. Check generated edges and consistency in motion.
  • Crop or Auto-Reframe

    Reuses source footage
    What changes
Shows part of the source, leaving edges out. Auto-reframing can track subjects.
    Choose when
Important subjects and details still fit the new composition.
  • Padding

    Reuses source footage
    What changes
Fits the full source frame inside a new canvas with borders or a background.
    Choose when
Visible borders are acceptable and no new scene detail is needed.
Look beyond the first frame

What Makes a Video Extension Look Natural?

A natural-looking extension keeps motion, subject appearance, lighting and surrounding details visually consistent with the source. Review the full clip, because a convincing first frame can still change during playback.

  1. Motion That Follows the Scene

Compare the source ending with the new opening. Watch for jumps in movement direction or camera speed.

  2. Consistent Subject Details

Look for unexpected changes in faces, hands, clothing, product shapes and readable text.

  3. Matching Light and Color

Check brightness, color temperature and shadows for an abrupt shift from the source.

  4. Consistent Surroundings in Motion

Watch for flickering edges, drifting objects or bending lines as the scene moves.

Play at normal speed, then pause on important details. Results vary by source and request.

Questions before you extend

AI Video Extender FAQs

Answers about video length, framing, result quality and credits.

What is an AI video extender?

An AI video extender generates new footage to continue an existing clip. Video frame expansion, also called outpainting, generates surroundings beyond the frame. These serve different goals: more running time or more scene area. Changing the aspect ratio changes the frame's proportions, not the video's length.

Compare video extension methods
Can I make a video longer without looping it?

Yes. AI continuation generates new footage instead of repeating a sequence or slowing it down. Describe the action you want to carry forward; the result depends on the source and the requested movement.

How can I get a smoother video continuation?

Use a continuous shot with a clear ending and describe one next action. Keep the camera direction consistent. Fast cuts, abrupt motion and major scene changes can make the continuation harder to match.

Can I change the aspect ratio without cropping or stretching?

Padding adds borders; AI outpainting fills extra space with generated scenery. VidExtend generates a new composition at your selected ratio using a reference frame and prompt. Original details may change, so review the subject and framing before using the result.

Explore aspect ratio changes
Does AI uncropping recover the original missing scene?

No. AI outpainting creates plausible surroundings; it cannot retrieve scene details that are missing from your file. Generated people, objects and backgrounds are interpretations, not evidence of what the camera recorded. If you have the original uncropped video, use that file to recover the actual scene.

How long can the generated clip be?

Choose from the lengths available in the tool. This setting controls the newly generated footage. It is different from the length of your source video or the total running time of your finished edit.

Check available clip lengths
What video files can I use?

Choose an MP4, WebM or MOV file up to 50 MB. Your browser must be able to decode the video; a supported file extension alone does not guarantee compatibility. Start with a single continuous shot and a clear ending for continuation. If the file cannot be read, try exporting it as MP4.

Will the generated clip match my video's faces, motion and style?

A reference frame and your prompt guide the result, but exact consistency is not guaranteed. A single frame does not capture the full motion history. Use the quality checklist to review the result.

See what to check in the result
Does VidExtend extend the original audio?

No. This workflow does not extend the original speech or music, or copy the source audio into the generated clip. Keep the original audio track in your editor and align it with the footage. Continuing dialogue or music requires a separate audio workflow.

Do I need a prompt, and what should I write?

A prompt is optional. Describe the next action or the surroundings you want. For example: “Continue the slow pan to the right as the person keeps walking.” Keep the instruction focused; a prompt guides the result but does not guarantee consistency.

Is VidExtend free, and do I need an account?

Generation uses credits and requires an account. Check your available balance and the displayed credit cost before submitting; you need enough credits for the selected settings. Subscription plans and one-time credit packs are listed on the pricing page.

View plans and credit packs
Is my full video uploaded for AI processing?

No. This workflow reads your video in your browser and extracts a reference frame. When you generate, that frame and your prompt are sent for AI processing; the full source video is not sent with the generation request. Use footage you have permission to process. The reference frame is shared for processing, so this is not an entirely on-device workflow.
